Teardrop Family – Textures from Other Worlds?
As a ‘Paisley Buddy’, I was born and grew up in the town – the product of generations who earned their living from the textile industry. Reflecting on the ‘Teardrop’, my grandparents immediately came to mind – my Papa was a foreman in the mill, meeting my Gran there, one of the mill workers. From there, the images of ‘family’ grew into the intuitive sense of the Teardrop mother, father and child – generations woven by Paisley’s threads. This version creating textures from the inks and watercolour, mixed media marks and collaged tissue paper – creating weave-like textures symbolising a tough life.
