Work, Rest & Pray

Using soil that I collected from the White Cart river near the Anchor Mill: "Work", Fountain Gardens: "Rest" and Paisley Abbey: "Pray", I have mixed these three soils separately with a binder to paint the classic Paisley pattern teardrop shape. The pattern that I drew on top of the soils, was influenced by an original Paisley pattern shawl, which belongs to my friend, whose Gran used to make Paisley Shawls. The design of the teardrop was outlined using Cerne relief: a water-based paste outliner. "Work, Rest and Pray" was created to remember all the workers who played a part in creating the Paisley Pattern shawls.
